A Great Western Tradition

“On the 25th day of October 1889, the application of J.L. Baird and the thirty residents and electors of the Territory of Wyoming hereinafter mentioned, has this day been presented to this Board of County Commissioners of Crook County.” And so the city of Newcastle, Wyoming, was born. Now located in Weston County, following a split from Crook County in May 1890, Newcastle now boasts over 3,500 residents. This size allows the city to have many of the amenities of a larger city and yet maintain a friendly, small-town atmosphere.

A Great Place for Business and Jobs

An active chamber of commerce and retail association provides for ample opportunities for business. The healthy Wyoming economy provides abundant opportunities for employment. The relative low cost of living in Newcastle, as compared to other areas in Wyoming, gives residents the best of both worlds.

A Great Place to Retire

The beautiful grasslands to the west and south, along with Western hospitality and a quality way of life, are a great draw for those interested in a Western lifestyle. Abundant opportunities for recreation abound. Hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and hiking in the adjacent Black Hills are wonderful available pastimes. A regular sight might even be a bald eagle! Within easy driving distance of several major medical centers and with good local medical care, as well, our small town is an excellent place to retire.

A Great Place for Education

There are three new schools in the city, as well as a first-class aquatic center. The high school and grade school were completed in 2002. The student population of 815 is divided between three schools: high school (278); middle school (192); and elementary school (345). They all have low student-teacher ratios.
